Cubs

Who are 1st Lagham Cubs?

Cubs are young people aged 8 to 10½ who:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Make friends
  • Are curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

Every week, they gather in groups called Cub Packs to take part in lots of interesting and challenging activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, whilst having lots of fun along the way.

At 1st Lagham we aim to provide our Cubs with action packed and interesting programs of activities, which will appeal to all. We pride ourselves on being inclusive to all and do our best to accommodate every Cubs individual needs.

We meet on Thursdays between 18:1519:45 (currently jointly with the Scouts)

What do we get up to?

Being a Cub is all about growing and learning in small but mighty ways. Our program provides a mixture of adventure, learning new skills and exploring the world we live in whilst also helping and supporting others. Our Cubs learn by doing and experiencing. Practical activities including cooking, camping, first aid, climbing, den building, hiking, caving, scuba and many more help to broaden the Cubs experiences, all of which have featured on our program over the last few years.

Some of the skills we try to develop, will help in mastering a chosen hobby or maybe help in succeeding in whichever job or profession that is undertaken in adult life, however the most important skills that we try to support our Cubs with are the ones that will enable them to feel confident and happy in their own skin. We aim to build characters, children with integrity, honesty, resilience, and the courage to try something new to learn from.

Cubs work as a team to help other people. Together, they learn about global issues and what we can all do to help solve them. We encourage our Cubs to be aware of the environment around us and to support our local community, when and where we can.

Meet The Team

Akela

Hi, I am Dom, Akela of 1st Lagham.  I took over as Akele in September 2025 following many years service as the Cub Scout Assistant Leader.

I joined scouting as a Beaver aged 6 and I have never left, I was a cub, a scout, and an explorer. I became a young leader at 14 as part of my Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and since then have had numerous roles including Akela/Cub leader for around 8 Years for a neighbouring Pack. Whilst eligible, worked hard to achieve the highest award that a youth member can achieve which is the Queen’s Scout Award. I have recently been awarded a certificate of merit and am rapidly working towards my 15-year service as a Uniformed Leader. In the little spare time I have, my hobbies involve getting covered in grease and grime playing around and repairing classic cars.

Shere Khan

Hi, I am Stuart, Shere Khan to the cubs at 1st Lagham. I have been volunteering as a leader in scouting since I turned 18 but have been a member of the movement since the age of 5. I started as a beaver and have enjoyed being a cub, a scout, and an explorer scout. I work for Sevenoaks council as a licensing technician and when I am not working or scouting, I like to spend time with family and friends. I enjoy cooking with my girlfriend, exploring the local countryside and socialising in and around Oxted.
